Old school music, so good, so fun! My favorite line: “he’s a complicated man but no one understands him but his woman.” Can you dig it?

"Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius."

— Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (via classicalliterature)

"The gospel frees us to realize that, while we matter, we’re not the point."

— Tullian Tchividjian

"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent."

— Victor Hugo (via classicalliterature)

classicalliterature:

In music the mystic chord or Prometheus chord is a complex six-note chord, scale, or pitch collection, which loosely serves as the harmonic and melodic basis for some of the later pieces by Russian composer Alexander Scriabin. Scriabin, however, did not use the chord directly but rather derived material from its transpositions.
It consists of the pitch classes: C, F♯, B♭, E, A, D. This is often interpreted as a quartal hexachord consisting of an augmented fourth, diminished fourth, augmented fourth, and two perfect fourths. However, the chord may be spelled in a variety of ways, and it is related to other pitch collections.

Lessons from the Gospels 6

Matthew 12

Out of the overflow of my heart, my mouth will speak.

Be cautious as to what I am storing up inside my heart.

What goes in will come out.

Just when I think I have seen it all…

This makes my brain hurt!

John Cage’s “Experiments in Chance Operations”
“Chance as not a way of giving up choices. My choices consist in choosing what questions to ask.” -John Cage

OMG! Thriller

Lessons from the Gospels 5

Matthew 9

“Sent out like sheep among wolves” - has been the story of my life/career.

“At that time, you will be given what to say” - depend on the Holy Spirit for everything. When you don’t know what to do or say, simply ASK GOD.

“Don’t be afraid of those who can kill the body.” or as my mom used to say about other people, “their s_ _ _ stinks just like yours and they put on their britches one leg at a time, so don’t worry about what they think.”

Jesus DID NOT come to bring peace but a sword. Now that will mess with your Sunday school version of Jesus.

The paradox of the gospels: “whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

"Inspiration is enough to give expression to the tone in singing, especially when the song is without words."

— Franz Liszt (via classicalliterature)

BEAUTIFUL! classicalliterature:

Bach - Cello Suite No. 5 - Sarabande

Performed by Yo-Yo Ma

"Go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something."

Kurt Vonnegut, with your friendly weekend reminder to get creative.

Lessons from the Gospels 4

Matthew 5-7 - These chapters are loaded, but here are a few things that God breathed on for me.

  • Don’t use a lot of words in prayer. My Daddy already knows what I need before I even ask Him.
  • I can’t serve God and money. So, there is no reason to worry about my life when God is in the driver’s seat. He clothes me and my family. He feeds us. He provides everything we need. He makes sure all our bills are paid. Just remember to SEEK FIRST His Kingdom and righteousness.
  • Don’t focus on other’s faults. Don’t judge. Deal with the massive plank in my own eye before trying to remove a speck of sawdust from someone elses eye.
  • Don’t forget to not only ask, but seek and knock!
